Burlington: The Town, Not The Coat Store

Tuesday, August 2, 2022 - Wednesday, August 3, 2022 - Thursday, August 4, 2022

When we planned this trip, we originally scheduled ourselves to spend only one night in Burlington. Part of the reasoning behind this was that getting from Schroon Lake to Burlington was a two-hour drive at most (I think we did it in just under two hours). The other reason being that we couldn't find a campsite that would allow us to spend two nights in the same spot. We figured that if we were going to have to pack up the campsite anyway, then we'd be fine making our way to our next stop.

That said, as the dates above suggest, we changed our minds.

The North Beach Campground was unique in that it was situated directly in the town of Burlington. It was as if you were driving through a city with a camper, making a couple of turns, driving by a school, and finding yourself at the entrance to a campground on the shores of Lake Champlain.

While our campsite wasn't on the shore itself, it was a 5-minute walk to the beach, which was wide open and huge. It included a playground and tons of space for games, playing, and finding a spot away from others, which was a good thing with a dog.

So, naturally, the first thing we did after unhitching and unpacking a few things was to change and head down to the water.

After a relaxing few hours, we headed back to the camper, changed, and drove ourselves into downtown Burlington.

No surprise here, but Cara and I found an Irish pub in the Church Street area called The Whiskey Room for drinks and dinner.

We still had a little bit of time kill before heading back to our campsite, so we just wandered ourselves around Church Street, popping into shops here and there.

Once back to North Beach Campground, the sun was setting, but we weren't quite ready to call it a night. We took one final stroll down to the beach and found ourselves with an incredible view over the lake.

Rainbow ribbons were out in full force to help create an incredible atmosphere and enjoyable close to an action-packed day in Burlington.

It was also around this time that we decided to hold off on leaving for Molly Stark State Park in the morning. Rather than rush off to a state park in the southwestern part of Vermont, we figured we could have a "beach day" and explore Burlington a little bit more. This would require us to pay for another site while also having to do the semi-annoying task of hauling the camper a few hundred feet to another spot.

But we did it, and it was worth it.

The next day, we took the girls to the playground again.

We did a hike from the far end of the beach to the Lone Rock Point lookout, a relatively easy, one-mile hike that Acadia could by herself.

The views from the lookout were breathtaking. Acadia was so excited and pumped that she was able to do the hike.

From there, we made our way back to our site, changed, and headed back down to the beach. This time, we'd have that "beach day." We brought the inflatable paddle board down.

Cara and I took turns taking the girls out on it while also playing in the very shallow water.

After some beach fun, dinner, and showers, we headed back to the shore for an evening dance party.

At night, we lit a fire and hung out around it for a little bit. Cara stayed behind to keep watch on the girls while Dana and I headed into town to get some beer from a local brewery as well as a maple creemee.

Somehow our 2022 road trip was wrapping up. The next morning, we'd pack up and begin our trek back to Pennsylvania with one last stop in Vermont. Because we decided to spend an extra night in Burlington, we'd only be at our next stop for one night.
